August Issue: On the Cover
|
|
The unlikely duo on this month’s cover is a Periclimenes sp. shrimp and its host anemone. Not a lot is known about these shrimps, which are typically found living on an anemone or coral colony. While they are thought to be cleaners of their host organisms, they may also prey on their hosts’ tissues—but at a rate that does not usually cause serious harm. In any case, such pairs can be successfully kept in an appropriate aquarium; this month Kieron Dodds looks at some useful—and not so useful—reef-cleanup crustaceans in Part 1 of his two-part series, “Cleanup in Aisle Three: Marine & Reef Janitors.”
