About the Cover

JUL AUG 2017 Cover SMALLER

This Parachromis managuensis male surrounded by a swarm of its fry was captured in this striking image by aquatic photographer Mo Devlin.  Using four flash units to light both parent fish and fry cloud, he picked a spot in the tank to focus on and waited, and his patience paid off handsomely with this dramatic shot.  Read more in Part 1 of “Tips and Tricks for Better Aquarium Photogs” page 62.

Photo Spread Acanthurus leucosternon

TFH_4-5

Here’s a sight you’ll never see in your aquarium:  a large school of powder blue tangs (Acanthurus leucosternon) getting along swimmingly well with each other.  Although a herbivore, the power blue tang is quite aggressive, especially toward those of its kind and any other vegetarians browsing in its territory.  At home, keep only one per spacious aquarium with plenty of unobstructed swimming room, and choose tankmates carefully.
