When the Fluval Spec V was introduced it was hailed as a breakthrough in nano aquariums, which are small aquariums that have many of the same features as much larger tanks, but because of their size, can go just about anywhere, from a small desk or office to a bookshelf. Now the Rolf C. Hagen (USA) Corp. has taken the Spec V and downsized it a bit, creating the Fluval Spec III, a nano aquarium with all of the same features as the Spec V, but with an even smaller footprint.
The very futuristic looking Spec III is what modern fishkeeping is all about – the perfectly-sized, all-glass aquarium has a footprint of less than one square foot, taking up no more room than a stack of books or a coffee maker, yet it has features previously found only in much larger setups and is much easier to set up and maintain. The Spec III comes with a powerful, 39 gallons-per-hour circulation pump with an adjustable output nozzle and a large three-stage filtration system that keeps the water clean, healthy and properly oxygenated for the tank’s occupants. Both the circulation pump and the filter system are housed in a separate frosted glass chamber at the back of the aquarium, keeping them out of sight, but also making maintenance faster and easier.
Beyond the simple, clean lines of the tank itself and the powerful filtration and water circulation systems, the most striking feature of the Spec III is the lighting system. Suspended by a brushed aluminum arm that stretches out over the top of the tank, the 31 powerful, bright and brilliant 7,500K high-luminosity energy-efficient LED lights beautifully illuminate the aquarium, providing full-spectrum daylight that brings out the stunning colors in the fish, plants and décor inside while creating virtually no heat.
The Fluval Spec III comes in a kit that includes everything needed to set up a beautiful yet compact undersea world for the home or office, including the 11.8 x 10.8 x 8.7 in (30 x 27.5 x 22.3 cm) Spec III etched glass aquarium with aluminum trim and frosted cover; circulation pump; filter with foam block, activated carbon and BioMax bio ring filter media; LED lighting system; Nutrafin Aqua Plus Water Conditioner and Biological Aquarium Supplement, 30 mL each; and a low-voltage power supply. It has an MSRP of $66.99 and is available online and at pet retailers nationwide. For more information visit www.hagen.com, or contact the Rolf C. Hagen (USA) Corp. at
