It’s been a problem that has plagued new fishkeepers – and the more experienced – since time immemorial. That is keeping fish alive and thriving. However, new start-up company seneye, founded by very some familiar names in the industry, believes it has found a solution at an affordable cost.

“Fish, plants and corals die for many reasons,” says Managing Director Matthew Stevenson. “Whether it’s new tank syndrome, poor filtration or simply a broken heater. seneye has invented an integrated product that helps, by constantly monitoring life-critical parameters for any sized aquarium or pond.” The seneye products are a massive step forward in fish care and allow any fish keeper, whatever their experience, to monitor the invisible pollution in their aquarium or pond which result in fish death and lead to fall out from the hobby.

The revolutionary product constantly monitors, among other parameters, free ammonia (NH3), pH, water level, temperature, and Light levels. Importantly, it utilises predictive software, thereby warning owners before a dreaded aquarium crash and its related loss of life. The device is available with a USB connection for connection to a PC with a range of over 15m using the optional active extension cable. If you don’t want to connect it to a PC then an optional USB power adaptor can be used, allowing it can work autonomously.

The results are relayed to the customer’s computer and automatically uploaded to their online web space where they can view graphs of the data collected and get advice. Alerts are sent to the customer via text messages and e-mail allowing for complete remote monitoring and peace of mind that the fish are safe. The sophisticated software analyses the results and raises a warning when parameters stray from the norm, as well as recommending corrective actions.

With an MSRP from just $110 for the home version, this is a cost-effective way to keep constant tabs on any sized aquarium or pond. seneye has three versions, all aimed at different hobbyists – home, pond and reef. seneye home, is aimed at anyone who owns a tank, be it a $100 aquarium or a large expensive fish tank. seneye pond is aimed at owners of garden and koi ponds, while the reef version targets reef aquarium keepers and planted aquarium owners and includes a full light meter able to do LUX, Kelvin and PAR.

John Wright, head of engineering at seneye, explained that “an easy to use, low cost monitoring device is the missing part of the fish keeping puzzle, we like a challenge and tackling the biggest issue in fishkeeping has been very exciting”.

The seneye is sure to make a big splash and it’s easy to see why people are already saying this is the biggest innovation in the aquatics market for years. Exciting times ahead are sure to follow for this innovative business and its products.
